Lyme Awareness Walk May 11, 2013 at South Park 1041 Mass Street, Lawrence, Kansas
Kansas Lyme Fighters started in 2009 as Friends helping Friends. In 2012, the organization's name was changed to Kansas Tick-borne Disease Advocates, Inc. We help people gain equal access medical testing and treatment according to the International Lyme and Associated Diseases (http://www.ilads.org/) Standard of Care written by physicians experienced in treating tick-borne infections with long term antibiotics (1-5 yrs).
We help people through empowerment and encouraging individual self advocacy. Our Board of Directors and volunteers work hard to connect people to resources. We are raising money to help pay for initial diagnostic testing while utilizing the resources available in the community and privately, to help families. All of our work is donated by dedicated volunteers.
Kansas Tick-borne Disease Advocates Inc., is listed as the primary name of the organization, who is also doing business as Kansas Lyme Fighters. The organization is listed with the Kansas Secretary of State as a Charitable organization with a solicitation license. We do not have a 501 c 3 determination from the IRS. We are tax-exempt without a determination letter from the IRS because we have the 501 c 3 language in our Articles of Incorporation and according to the IRS, are able to issue tax-deductibible receipts. However, we have been under the Lyme Disease United Coalition's determination letter.
